Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer made the announcement Monday, saying it will bring long-lasting, sustainable economic growth to the Southern Tier. The 220-mph trains will be used in a new multi-billion dollar, high-speed rail system from Los Angeles to Las Vegas.

The project is now in its third year. Arcadis, the contractor, expects upgrades will be completed by 2026.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer visited the Village of Dryden in Tompkins County Wednesday.

"We actually intended to be working currently, like this fall. But because of supply chain issues, fiber is one of the things that was hit particularly hard."

The public transit agency for Tompkins County, known as TCAT, wants to electrify its entire fleet of buses by 2035. There is funding from the federal infrastructure bill that will help the agency reach that goal.
