A group of 14 citizens, organized by Republican politicians, argue that the new district maps approved by the state Legislature and Gov. Hochul violate the state Constitution.

The petition argues New York state legislative and executive leaders, all Democrats, improperly passed the maps in violation of the procedures instituted by a constitutional amendment in 2014.

Broome County legislators voted along party lines Tuesday night to adopt a new legislative district map, favored by Republicans. Last week, many residents voiced their concerns about the map in a public hearing.

Citizens think the state’s redistricting process is broken and corrupt, manipulated by politicians for their own gain, and lacks transparency.

As Pennsylvania looks again to redraw its congressional map after the 2020 census, Draw the Lines PA hopes people across the state will become educated about the redistricting process in order to "slay the gerrymander."
