Over the weekend, Republican congressman Tom Reed hosted a series of three town halls around his Southern Tier district. They came just after the partial federal shutdown ended.

As the partial government shutdown enters its fifth week, the effects are spreading throughout Southern Tier and Finger Lakes communities.

Two Southern Tier congress members were sworn into their new posts on Thursday. They join the new Democratic majority in the House of Representatives.

Representative Tom Reed said there are compromises available to both parties which would reopen the federal government and give them a victory. First, Reed says Congress must stop what he calls partisan ‘political theater’ and start working to each other.
