The dairy industry relies on workers born outside of the United States. President Trump has called for authorities to ramp up the number of unauthorized imigrants they arrest and deport.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials arrested at least one person while in Ithaca Thursday. In a statement, the acting U.S. deputy attorney general condemned the area’s “sanctuary” immigration policies.

Their main objection is the addition of a customs building and one customs inspector. Customs is part of the federal Customs and Border Protection, an agency of the Department of Homeland Security.
