Gov. Kathy Hochul's father died overnight while she was visiting wartime Israel, with the governor slipping a note grieving her loss into Jerusalem’s Western Wall holy site on Thursday.
Hochul arrived in Israel on Wednesday and met with victims of the deadly Oct. 7 assault and families of hostages as part of a trip intended to show support for the country during its war with Hamas.
“When I got my [citizenship], I swear to protect this country but I have the right, too, to ask my government, or my Congressman, or my president, where is my tax money going?”
"The Jewish community is part of our family. And part of our family has been offended. And my family is going to go to Israel to make the point that we stand in solidarity with them."
