Broome County residents head to the polls Tuesday to select a new district attorney. Matt Ryan, a Democrat, is running against Republican defense attorney Paul Battisti. Ryan says his experience as mayor gives him the management and collaborative skills a district attorney needs.

Paul Battisti has worked as a private practice defense attorney for about 20 years. He says his experience will give him an advantage in prosecuting cases.

The Broome County Conservative Party’s executive committee voted to give Paul Battisti its ballot line over incumbent District Attorney Michael Korchak.

Ryan told WSKG Tuesday he’s beginning to pass petitions in hopes of securing the Democratic nomination for the district attorney’s office.
