As the pandemic continues to strain the nation’s health care workforce, the National Guard has increasingly been called on to bridge the gaps.

Governor Kathy Hochul said New York’s health care workforce was short-handed before the pandemic, and now it’s even worse.

"These are our freedom providers and just showing again that freedom is not free, we lost three great Americans today in the service of our country."

Concrete barricades have already been put in place to close off a portion of the street next to the Capitol. National Guard members were on site.

Cuomo stopped short of saying that he would deploy the state’s National Guard to any city without a request by its political leaders.

Approximately 850 Pennsylvania Guard members are supporting operations throughout the state to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

President Trump said he has activated the National Guard to assist New York, California and Washington.
