New York Governor Kathy Hochul held a 10 percent lead over challenger, Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin. In New York’s U.S. Senate race, Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer leads Republican Joe Pinion 54 percent to 34 percent.

“We’re hopeful to get another $500 million,” Hochul told reporters in Johnson City on Monday.

While plans for the new Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences facility pre-date the pandemic by several years, its opening comes at a time when many hospitals face nursing shortages.

“We have been advised by Chair Lavine — with the assistance of counsel - of the belief that the constitution does not authorize the legislature to impeach and remove an elected official who is no longer in office.”

Astorino, who officially announced his run for governor in May, has garnered just under $2.6 million since last September.

Any bills passed would require Cuomo’s signature.

In Tuesday's State of the State Address, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo proposed several changes to the criminal justice system.

"It’s like we’ve learned nothing from the failures of our drug policies over the past 40 years... If we were to invest similar money into revitalizing social infrastructure and economic infrastructure and our educational system we would see long term benefits," said Shannon Monnat, sociology professor at Syracuse University, who specializes in public health.
