A 2023 assessment found a majority of the city's railroad bridges were in "severe" or "poor" condition. Crews from Norfolk Southern, the railroad company that owns most of Binghamton's railroad bridges, wrapped up work on the Jarvis Street underpass last week.
Crews have already begun work to repair concrete columns and parapets at the railroad bridge over Glenwood Avenue, one of the bridges flagged in a city report as being in severe disrepair.
