First elected in 2014, Katko served four terms in Congress representing New York’s 24th Congressional District and has been voted as one of the most bipartisan members of Congress.

SU officials said they tried to have a "respectful dialogue" with the students, but they were "unwilling." Students said they were denied food, medicine and hygiene products, and were treated like prisoners.

Syracuse University officials have taken a noticeably tougher stance against protests by #NotAgainSU.

"We are taking prompt action on the commitments we made. We are making investments in programs and people. I believe this work, requested emphatically, insisted on by our students will make us a better place."
