U.S. Rep. Nick Langworthy was in the village of Painted Post in Steuben County recently to share a newly introduced bill to fund trade skill development in rural workforces. The bill would accompany the currently stalled federal farm bill and provide eligible companies and schools with millions of dollars in grants.
Manufacturers in New York want to compete with companies overseas and localize production. They’re limited, however, by hiring challenges and a lack of workforce housing.
At Rep. Reed's manufacturing summit, he said there's an opportunity for growing the high tech industry in his district, which includes Geneva, Jamestown and Elmira. But, one manufacturer in the area says her biggest challenge is just finding employees who can show up for work on time and read a tape measure.
