In the premiere episode of Season 3 of Chasing the Dream, we look into local school districts’ response to the COVID-19 crisis and the unique challenges faced by rural schools. Host Natasha Thompson, President & CEO of the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, has a conversation with Dr. Patricia Follette, Superintendent of the Whitney Point Central School District. Interviews with students responding to the crisis are also featured as well technology and engineering teachers from Union-Endicott Central School District that stepped up to help their community.

ALBANY, NY (WSKG) - Governor Andrew Cuomo says he’s acting “aggressively” to control clusters of COVID-19 outbreaks in 20 zip codes in New York City and the lower Hudson Valley. The average rate of transmission of the virus in the state remains one of the lowest in the nation, at just over 1% .
TOMPKINS COUNTY, NY (WSKG) - People have started turning in absentee ballots and a recent lawsuit will change how some ballots might be rejected or counted. According to the lawsuit by the League of Women Voters of New York, the state had the highest rates of absentee ballot rejection in the nation during the 2018 election.
NEW YORK NOW - Gov. Andrew Cuomo is asking local governments in New York state that have closed homeless shelters during the COVID-19 crisis to begin reopening those facilities, saying encampments of homeless people endanger public health. Cuomo said there’s been an uptick in homeless encampments in areas of the state, particularly cities, and that he wants to see those individuals move into shelters.
NEW YORK NOW - Landlords in New York will not be allowed to evict their tenants for nonpayment of rent until the start of next year, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday, setting up a reprieve for renters who’ve been unable to pay rent for the last several months due to the pandemic. But the order from the Cuomo administration will also place more pressure on landlords, who’ve still been required to pay operating expenses on their properties during the COVID-19 crisis.
ALBANY, NY (WSKG) - Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday he is immediately taking steps to control several outbreaks of COVID-19 in portions of New York, including installing rapid testing machines at virus hot spots. The overall rate of the infection rate for the coronavirus in New York was 1.5% Sunday.
