New York Representative Pushes For Congressional Action On Border Crisis

VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - During a tour of immigrant detention facilities, New York 19th District Congressman Antonio Delgado said he saw human beings who were suffering.  The Democrat visited government-run facilities on the southern border last week.

“We cannot allow the politicization of the border to obscure the need for coherent and comprehensive immigration policy," said Delgado, urging Congress to act.

The 19th district covers much of the Hudson Valley and part of the Southern Tier, including Otsego, Delaware and part of Broome Counties.

Delgado's border tour was coincidental with a similar trip taken by members of the House Problem Solvers Caucus. That’s a bipartisan house group aimed at achieving compromise between Democrats and Republicans.

Delgado’s office confirmed to WSKG last week that he’s not a part of the Problem Solvers Caucus.

New York's 23rd District Congressman Tom Reed is co-chair of the Problem Solvers and also made a trip to the border. His district stretches from Tioga County to Lake Erie.
